Third. Memories.
Memory #20: ☆ Valley of the End. [Note: I will kill Naruto because he's my best friend ↔ Ch217P17-Ch233P17] (Significant Neutral)
[Won in Beauty's realm reward (Sharable: 1/8) ]
What he remembered/learned:
- Running away from Konoha, but Naruto catches up to him.
- There's a lot of feelings in this memory, but he starts feeling very powerful. There's some conflict when he tries to leave, but Naruto calls him on running away. But he's decided to leave that behind.
- Orochimaru's power makes him cocky.
- "What does any of this have to do with you? I have my own path. I won't let anyone lead me any other way . . . No matter who it is. Let me make this clear to you. My childish games with you Leafs are over. Go home."
- Naruto says Neji's name.
- Remains a jerk to Naruto and lets him pin him to the ground.
- "Why the hell should I care about you?"
- "I've been awaken after all this time. From a dream by my foolish self who dreamed of a future with comrades drunken with the assurance of peace. That's why I left the village. That's why I desire power! The future is not where my dream is. It's in the past. That's where it'll always be."
- Vague flashbacks, since he still needs to remember the massacre. Just remembering that he needs to kill his closest friend.
- Trying to really kill Naruto. :T
- Naruto avoids getting killed at the last second and Sasuke feels the Kyuubi's chackra.
- Accepts to fight Naruto as an equal, with the intention of breaking that bond between them.
- Becomes aware that Naruto has a special power and that's why Itachi wanted him before.
- T-THE "I AM MORE SPECIAL THAN YOU."
- Using Orochimaru's power. BECOMING ALL "PRETTY."
- Talking about the country borders.
- ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN!!!11 And he wins.
- All the feelings when he sees Naruto lying there on the ground.
- Feeling a lot of pain for using Orochimaru's power.
What this means:
I tend to babble so much about Sasuke on a daily basis to Itachi that sometimes I forget that no one else knows about that, oops. Either way, this memory is huge and it will define a lot for Sasuke. It defined a lot for him in canon, too.
The thing about Sasuke is that he knew how wrong all of this was, but it was also his decision. He was always aware of how much Team 7 meant to him, especially Naruto in this memory, but it was impossible to make him come back. Sasuke, even at his core, chose to be alone and to follow his path of revenge because nothing meant more to him than Itachi's betrayal. The line "the future is not where my dream is" explains Sasuke's whole life perfectly well. His family, his memories, the massacre, everything before that point. All that makes Sasuke completely unwilling to let go of the past. He doesn't want a future. He didn't allow himself that, because he was going to let Orochimaru take his body or die fighting Itachi as long as he could kill him. That's all he truly wanted, anything else was just a foolish dream that died at some point. He was12 13 years old at the time and he was ready to die. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE HIS AGE, just as how important it's to note that Itachi massacred the clan when he was 13 and Sasuke was 8.
Then, after he learned the truth, he started to lose his sanity and broke down to the point he wanted to take revenge on the Konoha elders and then the village. He had to punish everyone else for the pain Itachi had to gone through. For the pain of his parents dying. It wasn't about his own pain anymore, it just became all about Itachi after that point. It's important because it explains everything about him. Fandom in general tends to forget that simple fact: his brother is everything to him in canon. After learning the truth, after Itachi's death, Sasuke sort of forgets about himself and it becomes even more about his brother instead.
Now, back to the memory. He had to hurt Naruto and made the decision of killing him because he was willing to do anything to become strong enough. So while Sasuke accepted Naruto as his best friend, a part of him couldn't accept or even understand how important he could be to Naruto, too. He asked him why he was willing to go that far for him, and that's something he's asked Naruto in Aather more than once. He will get it with this memory, even if he still thinks Naruto should just give up on him. But he gets it only because Sasuke made the decision to sever that bond in order to be alone again and become stronger again, because he had to destroy that. Sasuke has tried to do that in Aather, too! :'D But it didn't work and it's harder to sever bonds with people in such a small world.
Another random thing is that . . . Sasuke's levels of codependency and unhealthiness regarding his brother are extremely high. He's defined his whole life around Itachi, which isn't any differeny from canon, but while they both try to look out after each other, their relationship is increadibly unhealthy. His sanity is completely tied up to the fact Itachi is alive here, and another big things is that . . . Sasuke does think about a future. Which is to stay with Itachi. He doesn't want anything else, but he has no intention of going back to his world but that doesn't mean he's given up on revenge. It's just that he has no idea what else he will remember and . . . revenge isn't as important if he can just stay with his brother forever.
But the point of this was that there's this level of . . . jealousy, at times. The way I interpret the "I am more special than you" line is that Sasuke HATED that Itachi wasn't "interested" in him when he saw him for the first time since the massacre! Itachi was after Naruto. Sasuke hasn't remembered that yet, but he does remember vague things in flashbacks from that time. That Itachi told him he lacked hatred, that Itachi wasn't interested in him and that Jiraiya mentioned he was after Naruto. SO YEAH, FUCK YOU BROTHER WHY WEREN'T YOU THERE FOR ME >(!!! Sasuke, as broken as he was, and as much as he hated his brother, he still wanted to be a priority. He wanted his brother attention. Which explains the whole line from before in a way that makes sense to me.
In general, this memory will only make Sasuke more willing to act on things like stop talking to people. His willingness to talk to people will decrease more, but he won't ignore people that decide to approach him. He won't want to talk to Naruto or Sakura for a bit, because yeah he will be aware that he pretty much nearly killed Naruto. And that it sort of changed him.
Memory #21: ☆ Meeting Naruto on his way to fight Itachi [Note: I don't waste my time . . . ↔ Ch371P02-06] (Trivial Neutral)
[Won in Game #80 (Sharable: 1/2) ]
What he remembered/learned:
- Running! And he's with Team Hebi.
- They run into one of Naruto's clones and Sasuke uses a chidori on him.
- "Naruto . . . He never gives up."
What this means:
A short memory that might actually make Sasuke stop thinking he can make Naruto give up on him. MAYBE I JUST NEED TO MAKE HIM AVOID HIM INSTEAD. So yes, he might make bad decisions in order to do that. He can't do the same with Sakura because his relationship with her is very different and she doesn't even remember enough of him at this point. He's more willing to be a jerk to her instead of trying to hurt her.
