Memory #6 and Skill #5
Memory #6: ☆ After Gaara. [Note: Is he Naruto? ↔ Ch124P14-Ch125P03 | Ch125P12-Ch126P01 | Ch127P01-Ch129P11 | Ch131P13-Ch136P22 | Ch138P048-067] (Significant Negative)
[Won in Game #45]
What he remembered/learned:
- He definitely feels different than in his previous memories. More frustrated/pissed off/ready to prove how strong he actually is and he considers Gaara his TARGET. He had a match with him.
- Weird dudes (Kankuro, Temari and Gaara) and Shino, Shino seems like a capable ninja and he's a comrade. He doesn't like getting his help, though. Also, he's creepy.
- BLUFFING ALL OVER.
- It looks like Gaara's village attacked Konoha and Sasuke doesn't care about the motives, but he will stop Gaara anyway.
- HE WANTS TO SEE GAARA'S TRUE IDENTITY.
- Gaara is so fucked up and he thinks they're the same.
- Feeling fear due to Gaara's change of appearance. Wondering if he's a monster.
- My reason of existence is revenge.
- "It was intentional. Only I was left alive . . . but for what reason? No, I know why. He let me live so that he doesn't feel guilty about killing the entire clan. My brother Itachi chose me to be the avenger, the sole reason for my existence is to hunt him. To destroy him!"
- Chidori. He can't use it more than a few times.
- He can't stand being called weak. "Your hatred is weaker than mine."
- WTF is up with those markings on his arm.
- He gets saved by Naruto at the last moment.
- Sakura knows about the marks, Kakashi "took care of them" but that's obviously not true.
- CAN BARELY THINK AND HE'S IN SEVERE PAIN WHEN THOSE MARKS APPEAR. Doesn't register what happens for a while, SO THERE'S A LOT OF PAIN FOR A WHILE.
- Naruto acts weird and Sakura is in danger.
- PUSHES SELF TO SAVE NARUTO FROM HITTING A TREE. Calls Naruto a dimwit and asks him if he decided to go back to his normal self.
- "Hey, Naruto. Sakura. You have to save her no matter what. (...) Never again . . . I already lost everything once before. I don't ever want to watch those dear to me die before my eyes again."
- Gaara is a monster but Naruto shows enough power to defeat Gaara on his own.
What this means:
I'm ignoring the flashbacks in those chapters because that's part of another memory.
First off, this memory will have huge impact on Sasuke. He remembered in a previous memory that he almost died and he didn't want to die before killing Itachi. He had no idea why, he had no context for it, but it was intense and it was clear that he meant it. He was willing to die for those who are important to him, though.
Now he remembers thinking the first quote from the explanations. He feels anger and he has pretty clear now that his path is no other than revenge. Power through hatred. Gaara compares himself to him and Sasuke is called weak due to lacking enough hatred. He feels that when he's fighting Gaara at first and then it's replaced by surprise because Sakura and Naruto get there to save his ass. It's important to note that Sasuke hasn't seen Naruto fight for a loooooooooooong time now, and Naruto had a couple of power ups but Sasuke missed them completely because he was either unconscious or away training with Kakashi, so watching Naruto fight like this has a huge impact. Sasuke wonders if that's really Naruto because Sasuke still considered Naruto weak, even if he cared about him. His role in Team 7 was defined around being stronger than Naruto and Sakura and thus, he had to save and protect them. He HAD to be the strongest because if he's not then . . . why the hell he's on that path? He HAS to be the best, so Naruto proving he wasn't good enough and fighting and defeating Gaara practically destroys everything Sasuke's been fighting for. This is why this memory is so important.
As a result, while Sasuke would do anything to protect Naruto and Sakura, he is feeling conflicted by Naruto's grow as a ninja in this memory. But that's actually sort of secondary because what will confuse Sasuke the most and what will hold more impact on him will be knowing that he was the only one from his clan left alive and that the person who killed them all is Itachi. MEANING HIS FATHER AND HIS MOTHER ARE PROBABLY DEATH, TOO. But he . . . doesn't remember how it happened just that it happened.
Now . . . WHY IS SASUKE NOT KILLING ITACHI RIGHT NOW?! Because Sasuke can't deal with the truth. He just can't. He's had several memories of loving his brother and caring deeply about him, even in that conflicting one he got last time! Sasuke has a tendency to refuse to accept things that clash heavily with everything he believes is the truth. He can't really believe in his own words and he'll be a severe mess inside his head because he'll spend a lot of time thinking about it over and over again.
He can't accept that Itachi killed everyone. He can't accept that he wants to kill Itachi. And having Itachi there, showing love for him, is even more conflicting and it makes it even harder because Sasuke thinks that the only reason he was kept alive was so Itachi wouldn't feel guilty. It doesn't make any sense. He can't recognize his memories as real because his actual reality in Aather is so different. He's gotten to the point of completely refusing to accept it's true. He has disconnected himself from his memories.
This means Sasuke will shut down, he will act functional for games but he will spend more time alone training or alone in the library, but he will seek out Itachi and he will want to be around him, but now he's even more awkward around him.
IN SHORT, Sasuke broke a bit even if he's aware now that Sakura and Naruto are people he refuses to lose.
Skill #5: ⇒ Cooking [Mundane]
[Won in Game #46]
I'm assuming he got some "classes" from Ginshu, but now he can cook decent meals. HE LIVED ISOLATED AND ALONE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER ALL.
